Crew Appreciation post - Sumotherhood

Sumotherhood is finally being released in cinemas with a Leicester Sq. premier this time next week.
Nothing new or special here, film gets released and goes to cinema shocker.... you'd be right too but this is one of those low budget jobs that has actually done well.
Shoot in Feb/March 2022 Sumotherhood is Adam Deacon's come back film and is a sequel, of sorts, to Anuvahood.
Those of you that know comedy know it’s fast paced with improvisation and over lapping dialogue, those of you that know low budget know that the page count can be high, well we had both. Most days we shot 10-12 pages (see pictures of a typical mornings work) most of this being down to Adam’s style of writing, not gonna lie it was hard work and without the right crew it would have been impossible; step forward Ash Sinani (1st AS) Rory Rae (2nd AS) and Phil Stander (dailies 2nd AS)
What a team! Those of you that know these guys know they represent some of the best talent in the business. Every day was a joy, even with several unit moves a day and grotty East London warehouses estates and roadsides we still had a laugh (helped of course by the amazing script). We cared about the film and enjoyed working together and I feel it shows in the quality of our work. Walking away from the job I was proud of what we’d achieved but when I heard from post production that there was ZERO technical ADR I was even more grateful for my team and their collective abilities.
It’s been great to watch Sumotherhood’s post journey through socials, being signed up to Paramount and then the MASSIVE Leicester Square billboard and seemingly ubiquitous posters around East London.
It reaches me that Adam has been talking about us as a department during the press junkets, full of positivity for our contribution to his film and for me that’s what it’s all about.
I can’t make the premier next week (away working) which is a shame as it’s my first as a mixer but hopefully this is just the beginning!

In celebration of Underwold being realised on @curiositystream I thought I’d share some behind the scenes snaps of our adventures across the globe.
Achieving sync sound on underworld was not an everyday task (see my video blog) but one thing for sure everyday was fun and one hell of unique experience and I met some incredible people most of whom became good friends.

ps shout out to @jvacunningham who was great but I don’t have a picture of because we were too busy freezing to death on the moor! 😂

Very little movement from the cast on this scene but carpets laid to protect the dialogue and potential improvs… incremental gains that make a big difference and protect the performances.

Las Cuaves is a cave deep in the Belizean jungle, a former Mayan ritual site, almost like a theatre. It’s believed this is where the Maya carried out ceremonies to bring on the rain and end the drought that eventual caused the collapse of this once great and flourishing society.
Here we are taking part in one of these ceremonies, what an honour. Something the Maya still do to this day.
